Transformers 2 - Revenge of the Fallen trailer

This is the trailer to the movie that is setting records in the box office. Transformers 2 - Revenge of the fallen is a big favourite, (and an endless topic of discussion) for the children and also teacher of Room Six.
So here is the trailer. "Transform and roll out..!"

Hi everyone, welcome to the beginning of week 10.
This week there will be no homework reading. This is due to all library and reading resourse books needing to handed in.
There will be a word of the week and spelling.
Your word of the week is 'RESTORE'.

Last Day for voting

We would like to extend ONE LAST opportunity to vote for the Back to baSIX blog. Although the competition is tough, we believe that 'a vote for us is a vote for Apanui School'.

Back to baSIX Tribute to Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

We would like to pay tribute to a man who, single-handedly, changed the course of music as we know it.

The 'Undisputed King of Pop' was found dead today in his home from cardiac arrest (his heart stopped).

We will always be grateful to him for the great music and funky dance moves that he graced us with over the last

few decades.

Although a little odd at times, he will forever be a music legend.

R.I.P: Michael Joseph Jackson - Born: August 29 1958, Died: June 25 2009

Week 9 Written Language. 'Writing from pictures'.

Learning Intention for this lesson is:
To use descriptive language to describe what they see in a picture (as seen above).
Success Criteria is:
* Must use examples of similes, metaphors.
* Must effectively paint a picture in the readers mind through their use of descriptive language.

Below is an example of some work from the 'Back to baSIX' team.

The old man sat on the cold, hard rocks.
The hungry birds dived down into the sea.
The birds fly around looking to land on the ground.
By Hamiora (9yrs)

The old smelly man sat on a cracked rock, listening to the happy birds chirping.
By Manaia (8yrs)

The old man sits on the cold, stoney ground.
He is getting ready to gaze out of his binoculars.
The hill sits as still as a stone brick statue.
By Alex (7yrs)

The blue sea glistened in the bright fireball above.
The bright snowy coloured gulls, float gently above the rippling posicle sea.
The old clumsey man geezes at the humongous fire on the mountain.
The mouldy box sits there rotting in the water.
By Caitlin (7yrs)

The man is sitting on the ground with binoculars and a camera.
The gulls fly across the beautiful, calm sea as the claws on their feet touch the water.
The mountain sits there like a sleeping giant.
By Alister (7yrs)

The dirty old man is sitting on the stoney, hard ground.
The cold seagulls are diving into the rippling water.
The tall, still mountain stands in the quiet breeze.
The cold water is flowing slowly.
The smelly tree is staring at the worried man.
By Sam (8yrs)

This is just a taste of the great things that our team have written. Please feel free to read and leave a comment. The kids love it.

Cycle Safety Day

The cycle safety day was fun because we all got to ride on our fantastic bikes. The activities were very fun. We all learnt how to signal the drivers when we intend to stop and to tell them where we are going to go. We all had to jump over a ramp on our bike. The next thing we had to do was a theory test. It was a fun day.

CHICKEN POX ALERT!!!

Please be aware that there is an outbreak of Chicken Pox in our class. The infected person would have been around and in our class during their most contagious period of the illness.

Chicken Pox causes a red, itchy rash on the skin that usually appears first on the abdomen or back and face, and then spreads to almost everywhere else on the body, including the scalp, mouth, nose, ears, and genitals.
The rash begins as multiple small, red bumps that look like pimples or insect bites. They develop into thin-walled blisters filled with clear fluid, which becomes cloudy. The blister wall breaks, leaving open sores, which finally crust over to become dry, brown scabs.

IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOUR CHILD MAY HAVE CHICKEN POX OR ARE WORRIED, THEN PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL!!!!!

For more infomation please follow the link.

A dark day for New Zealand

It was a sombre atmosphere in the locker rooms after the shocking defeat of the All Blacks to france (27-22).

After the humiliating loss we had to the French in the last World Cup, it was imperative that we regained our pride and showed the French that we had evolved and tightened up our gaps.

Unfortunately, we underestimated our opponents and were beaten once again. Kudos to France as they were the better team on the day.

FUNKY-LICIOUS 70'S NIGHT

Saturday night saw the Apanui School hall transformed into a groovy, hip, jive filled 70's disco club. Proceeds from the night are going to the purchase of new shade sails for our school. While there has been some confusion over the origin of the outfits and how many men were wearing their wives pants, it was a Dy-no-mite night.

Keep watching for photos

Homework for week 6

Hi kids, your word of the week is 'impress'.

Make sure you look this word up and find out what it means.

A reminder to you that it is also important that you keep reading each night.

**NOTE TO PARENTS**
Each child has a reading group, this also is complemented with a box of 'fluency books'. These are texts that are set behind their own reading levels. It is important that the child feels confident with home reading.
Please encourage this reading and also sign their homework books so I can log their progress.
